Six Sigma

Six Sigma seeks to improve the quality of process outputs by identifying and removing the causes of errors and minimising variability in manufacturing and business processes. It uses a set of quality management methods, including statistical methods, to create a knowledge infrastructure and a change culture within the organisation. Each Six Sigma project carried out within an organisation follows a defined sequence of steps; translating a business problem into an analytical and statistical problem wherein facts and data can be analysed to determine root causes, before developing permanent, cost-effective business solutions.

Developed to improve processes at Motorola in 1985, Jack Welch made it a central focus of his business strategy at General Electric in 1995. Many sectors in the market including, retailers, banks and financial institutions and healthcare are now using Six Sigma to help them reduce waste and attain faster processes and lower cost.

Delta Group’s approach begins with understanding the company's value stream, and together with the team (made up from clients own staff), map out existing processes and related costs. Next, we identify any “quick wins” to implement, while defining the total opportunities existing in the process. Finally, we focus on the areas for improvement, implementing changes while giving ownership of the new processes to the process owners.
